This 22nd issue of the journal SATOR has a clear focus: to give an overview of Udmurt mythology and of different questions that arise in Udmurt folk culture. It is a dialogue between the past and the present. While most articles are concentrated on traditional culture and describe its features from older sources, some of them reveal present concerns and are more turned to what is going on nowadays. The authors are renowned Udmurt folklorists and literary historians, as well as specialists of Udmurt culture outside Udmurtia. This issue is dedicated to Tatiana Vladykina, the brilliant founder of the Udmurt school of folkloristics, who has taught and inspired many Udmurt intellectuals and scholars. Thus, the editors wished to express their gratefulness for Vladykina’s contribution to folk culture research and to the Finno-Ugric communities’ worldview.
