Articles by Tony Alabaster, Joan DeBardeleben, Lassi Heininen, Kimberley Heuckroth, Timo P. Karjalainen, Ilmo Massa, Boris Segerståhl, Veli-Pekka Tynkkynen, Natalia Yakovleva, Oleg Yanitsky

Russian environmental policy has been in a constant change throughout the 1990s. In the same time, the possibilities of Russian environmental authorities to act against unfavourable environmental changes have been declining fast. President Vladimir Putin's recent decision to abolish independent Environment Protection Committee will probably move Russia even further from the environmentally sound policy-making.

Russia's environmental problems and politics, despite their far-reaching regional and global consequences, have not so far been a very popular research subject in the West. We hope that this book will serve to fill at least part of this huge research gap and cultivate international understanding about these important issues both in East and West. The book will present theoretical approaches as well as more empirical contributions to the discussion on ecological crises in Russia.
