Nikolai Ivanovich Moskalenko was born in Leningrad, in 1933. During the years of studying he began to be passionately interested in percussion instruments – that was the beginning of his future creative searches. Uncommon talent, successful dialogue with such legendary percussionists as A. Sobolev, V. Osadchuk (Moskalenko finished his class in conservatory as one of the best students), work in philharmonic orchestra, and, also, long professional contacts with western musicians – all these circumstances played its important role in his creative development.
Combining both educational and concert activities, during the long period Moskalenko was working at transcriptions for the ensemble of percussion instruments. For clearly illustration of these words we present you this edition, which includes only a small part of great repertoire, created by Moskalenko. These pieces are recommended for playing in music schools, schools of art and musical colleges. First of all – because of limited possibilities of orchestral instruments in the middle-educational establishments, Moskalenko used only traditional orchestral sets, without any innovations of modern and extraordinary sounds. In spite of this, such bright and reach material (we mean its genre variety), including different styles and musical epochs, can be certainly used in concert practices of young musicians.

Contents:

C. Guarnieri. Black Dance
H. Villa-Lobos. White Indian’s Dance
C. Debussy. Golliwog’s cake-walk. From “Children’s Corner”
D. Shostakovich. Polka. From “The Age of Gold”
D. Shostakovich. Galop. From Ballet Suite No. 1
