Some time later after the First Concerto for piano and orchestra was completed Edvard Grieg started the drafts of the Second one. However, that exact work occurred to have been unfinished. Nothing was explained. Evidently Grieg conceived the concerto B minor in three movements. Three short piano score drafts are preserved. The first one is a lyrical drawling melody of four bars (apparently an object point of the principal theme of the 1st movement). The second draft consists of eight bars, the main feature of which is precisely delineated scherzoso motif, generated in the sphere of the subdued theme of the 2nd movement. Finally, the third extensive fragment is a steady dancing theme, self-possessed as the tarantella and intended more exactly for the finale. Actually these sketches are vivid thematic materials, endowed with special Grieg’s peculiarities. It’s a pity the composer’s interesting conception did not come true.

Rather free revision absorbing modern music expressive means (complicated harmony and rhythmic, technique of clusters and collages, special orchestra effects, among which there is a significant function of percussions etc), or unmasking of the most typical Grieg’s features, i. e. making stylistic model of his music.
Two beginning laconic movements are the kind of a prologue to the evolving finale.

Через некоторое время после окончания Первого концерта для фортепиано с оркестром Эдвард Григ приступил к созданию эскизов Второго фортепианного концерта. Однако по неизвестным причинам эта работа осталась незавершенной. Судя по всему, Григ задумывал трехчастный концерт в си миноре. Из эскизов сохранились три коротких фрагмента в клавирном изложении. Первый из них — четырехтактовая распевная мелодия лирического склада (вероятнее всего — прообраз главной партии I части). Второй набросок — восьмитакт, заключающий в себе остро очерченный скерцозный мотив, который мог принадлежать сфере побочной партии I части либо развиться в одну из тем II части. Наконец, третий, наиболее развернутый фрагмент — упругая танцевальная тема, выдержанная в характере тарантеллы и предназначавшаяся, вероятнее всего, для финала Концерта. Эти наброски — яркий, обладающий всеми характерными григовскими особенностями тематизм, и остается только сожалеть о том, что автор не осуществил свой интересный замысел.
Концерт-фантазия для фортепиано с оркестром "В мире Эдварда Грига" — трехчастная композиция, части которой следуют без перерыва. В этом сочинении использованы все эскизы, созданные Григом во время предварительной работы над Вторым фортепианным концертом. Весь тематический материал Концерта-фантазии также принадлежит Эдварду Григу. В основе произведения лежит идея представить различные взгляды на оставленный Григом материал Концерта: с одной стороны — достаточно свободная его переработка с использованием современных музыкальных выразительных средств (усложненная гармония и ритмика, кластерная и коллажная техника, специфические оркестровые эффекты, среди которых — весомая роль группы ударных инструментов и т. д.), а c другой — выявление в этом материале наиболее типичных для музыки Грига черт, то есть отношение к нему как к "стилевой модели".

Odnako po neizvestnym prichinam eta rabota ostalas nezavershennoj. Sudja po vsemu, Grig zadumyval trekhchastnyj kontsert v si minore. Iz eskizov sokhranilis tri korotkikh fragmenta v klavirnom izlozhenii. Pervyj iz nikh — chetyrekhtaktovaja raspevnaja melodija liricheskogo sklada (verojatnee vsego — proobraz glavnoj partii I chasti). Vtoroj nabrosok — vosmitakt, zakljuchajuschij v sebe ostro ocherchennyj skertsoznyj motiv, kotoryj mog prinadlezhat sfere pobochnoj partii I chasti libo razvitsja v odnu iz tem II chasti. Nakonets, tretij, naibolee razvernutyj fragment — uprugaja tantsevalnaja tema, vyderzhannaja v kharaktere tarantelly i prednaznachavshajasja, verojatnee vsego, dlja finala Kontserta. Eti nabroski — jarkij, obladajuschij vsemi kharakternymi grigovskimi osobennostjami tematizm, i ostaetsja tolko sozhalet o tom, chto avtor ne osuschestvil svoj interesnyj zamysel.
