“Passion Week” op. 13 was being created by M. O. Steinberg from 1921 to 1926 despite the ban on sacred music in Soviet Russia, without any hope for its publication and performance. For a long time the score was considered lost, but years later the work was discovered by American conductor Igor Buketoff, a descendant of Russian emigrants. There explanation exists that in the U. S. “Passion Week” was brought to the U. S. by D. Shostakovich himself, a favorite Steinberg’s pupil, during one of his trips abroad. He also gave the score to Buketoff. After the death of the conductor, the manuscript was passed to publisher Barbara Mouk, daughter of Buketoff, who published this work in the United States.
The edition that you are holding in your hands is the first publication of “Passion Week” in Russia, which is published after the score kept in the library of the State Academic Cappella of St. Petersburg.

«Страстная седмица» op. 13 создавалась М. О. Штейнбергом с 1921 по 1926 год вопреки запрету духовной музыки в советской России, без надежды на её издание и исполнение. Долгое время партитура считалась утерянной, однако спустя годы сочинение обнаружилось у американского дирижёра Игоря Букетова, потомка российских эмигрантов. Существует версия, что в США «Страстную седмицу» в одну из своих заграничных поездок доставил любимый ученик Штейнберга Д. Д. Шостакович. Он же и передал партитуру Букетову. После смерти дирижёра рукопись перешла к издателю Барбаре Маук, дочери Букетова, которая опубликовала это сочинение в США.

«Strastnaja sedmitsa» op. 13 sozdavalas M. O. Shtejnbergom s 1921 po 1926 god vopreki zapretu dukhovnoj muzyki v sovetskoj Rossii, bez nadezhdy na ejo izdanie i ispolnenie. Dolgoe vremja partitura schitalas uterjannoj, odnako spustja gody sochinenie obnaruzhilos u amerikanskogo dirizhjora Igorja Buketova, potomka rossijskikh emigrantov. Suschestvuet versija, chto v SSHA «Strastnuju sedmitsu» v odnu iz svoikh zagranichnykh poezdok dostavil ljubimyj uchenik Shtejnberga D. D. Shostakovich. On zhe i peredal partituru Buketovu. Posle smerti dirizhjora rukopis pereshla k izdatelju Barbare Mauk, docheri Buketova, kotoraja opublikovala eto sochinenie v SSHA.
