Louis Spohr (1784 –1859) was a German composer, violinist and conductor. His fame at his time could rival Beethoven's who's friend he was, many of his works were considered on a par with those of Mozart by his enormous talent. At the such young age as 20, Louis or Ludewig (his Christian name by birth), Spohr had all musical Germay at his knees. He wrote 9 Symphonies, 18 Violin Concertos, many chamber and symphonic works, 150 in total. His works for violin became evergreens and now constiture the back bone of the pedagogical violin repretoire.
Here we publish the 1 st Movement of his Concerto No2, one of the most popular of his concertos. Medium level of difficulty combined with noble beauty of Spohr's melodic genius.
