Transfiguration Cathedral of the Mirozh Monastery can be regarded as one of the most important medieval monuments of the city of Pskov. The cathedral was built and decorated with murals around 1130-1140. Its construction was initiated by Nifont, Archbishop of Novgorod, whose main goal was to carry on the missionary work in North-West Rus. The frescoes of the cathedral were created by Byzantine masters and are outstanding for the richness of their iconography, artistic value and their excellent condition. All this makes the Mirozh Monastery cathedral one of the most interesting architectural monuments of medieval Europe.
