Vladimir Agopov, Prayer (Psalm no. 6) for Male Chorus a capella. Second edition, revised

Composer Vladimir Agopov (of Armenian descent, former family name Akopian) was born in Ukraine and received his composer's diploma at the Moscow Conservatory in 1977 after having studied with Aram Khachaturian and Edison Denisov. After moving to Finland, he continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy 1978-1984, guided by Paavo Heininen. His works have been performed in many countries and festivals, such as Kuhmo, Naantali, Kemiö, Korsholm, the Moscow Sibelius Week, International Festival of Arts, New York, 13th World Harp Congress in Hong Kong, World Music Days 2019 in Tallinn, and Moscow Autumn 2019.

His production includes works for orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles, and theatre, as well as arrangements etc. Most notable works are Concerto for Organ and orchestra 'Notre Dame', Concerto for orchestra 'Homage to Master', Concerto for Cello and Orchestra 'Tres viae', Settembre per orchestra grande and Blackbird Variations for soprano and orchestra.

Agopov's works have been awarded in many competitions in Finland and abroad, such as second prize in the composition competition attached to the Sibelius violin competition (Ergo for violin and piano), first prize in the 17th Edvard Grieg competition in Oslo 2013 (Solveig's Dreams for harp solo), first prize in the lied competition 2017 (Four Songs to Poems by William Blake). Agopov worked as lecturer in theoretical subjects at the Sibelius Academy in 1988-2021.

Vladimir Agopov (s. 23. marraskuuta 1953 Luhansk, Ukrainan SNT) on suomalainen säveltäjä ja musiikinopettaja.

Armenialaistaustainen Agopov (alkuperäinen sukunimi Akopjan) syntyi Ukrainassa, suoritti sävellysdiplomin Moskovan konservatoriosta vuonna 1977, jossa opiskeli sävellystä Aram Hatshaturjanin ja Edison Denisovin johdolla. Muutettuaan Suomeen hän jatkoi opintoja Sibelius-Akatemiassa Paavo Heinisen johdolla 1978-1984. Sävellyksiä on esitetty monissa maissa ja festivaaleilla, mm. Kuhmossa, Naantalissa, Kemiönsaarella, Sibelius-viikolla Moskovassa, International Festival of Arts -festivaalilla New Yorkissa, 13th World Harp -kongressissa Hong Kongissa, World Music Days 2019 -festivaalilla Tallinnassa ja Moscow Autumn 2019 -festivaalilla. Tuotantoon kuuluu orkesteri-, kuoro- ja kamarimusiikkia, teatterimusiikkia, sovituksia ja muita.

Agopovin teoksia on palkittu useissa ulko- ja kotimaisissa sävellyskilpailuissa, kuten Sibelius-viulukilpailun yhteydessä järjestetty sävellyskilpailu, 2. palkinto (Ergo for violin and piano), 17. kansainvälinen Edvard Grieg -sävellyskilpailu Oslossa vuonna 2013, 1. palkinto (Solveig's dreams for harp solo), Lied-sävellyskilpailu 2017, 1. palkinto (Four songs to poems by William Blake). Hän on toiminut Sibelius-Akatemian teoria-aineiden lehtorina vuosina 1988-2021.

Tärkeimmät teokset: Concerto for orchestra Homage to Master, Concerto for Cello and Orchestra Tres viae, Settembre per orchestra grande, Blackbird variations for soprano and orchestra, Decimetto for chamber ensemble, Musiikkia kamariorkesterille (Palkittu kansallisessa sävellyskilpailussa Kouvolassa), Jousikvartetot nro 1 & 2, Prayer for Male choir a capella (kantaesitys World Music Days 2019 -festivaalilla, Tallinn), Motetus for mixed choir, organ, harp & percussion, Pater Noster for mixed choir a capella.

Agopovin teoksia ovat esittäneet mm. Gennadi Rozhdestvenski, Juri Bashmet, Aleksandr Vinnitski, Willy Postma, Arto Noras, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo, Liisa Pohjola ja Anna-Liisa Bezrodny.
