Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British writer regarded as one of the greatest novelists to write in the English language. The main character of The Secret Agent, Mr Verloc keeps a shop in London's Soho where he lives with his wife Winnie, her infirm mother, and her idiot brother, Stevie.
