This book reveals the many faces of Finland's offshore islands as one travels along the coast of the Gulf of Finland from the border with Russia towards the Archipelago Sea and the Åland Islands and on up the east coast of the Gulf of Bothnia through the Bothnian Sea and Kvarken area to the Bothnian Bay. We see how the islands have gradually been shaped by the process of land uplift and how they will presumably alter in the future, and we learn to appreciate why human habitation has become established at suitable points on the coast and islands.
This book on Islands and Archipelagos is the second in a series designed for completion in 2017 to mark the centenary of Finnish independence.
